Zwijndrecht opened its fifth Intratuin branch in Belgium; an entirely new complex designed by Breddels Architects. Located on the outskirts of the city of Antwerp, this garden centre plays host to a catchment area of almost 150.000 households. Notable here is that this is the first Intratuin store to be set out over three levels. An ultra-compact accommodation, particularly appropriate to its urban location.

The Zwijndrecht Intratuin boasts 6.600 m² of retail space. The garden furniture and pet products are located in the basement, whilst the other levels offer a comprehensive range of flowers, plants, gardening and lifestyle and interior accessories. The levels are connected with elevators and a wide stone staircase. Application of state-of-the-art technology and appropriate materials, including among others in the area of thermal insulation, makes this branch one of the most progressive of its type.

The Zwijndrecht Intratuin’s arched roof beams and coated steel above the mirrored glass give the exterior an attractive and elegant feel. This atmosphere of refinement is also echoed in the store’s interior. The floors to the basement and other levels are poured in a smooth concrete, specially treated to set to appear as hard stone.

This has imparted an individual and luxurious feel to the entire project. The finished store is also very maintenance-friendly.
